With the pen cap/ clicker spring mod comes extra tension. Not to mention the VM carb extra tension. Honda has always had the easier thumb throttle in my opinion. So why not put it on our bikes? First thing you need to get is a Honda thumb throttle. That's easy go to eBay. I picked one up for $10 from a Rancher. Next remove the stock thumb throttle. Easy task. Shouldn't need an explanation. But push the throttle to full and grab the cable inside the housing with needle nose pliers. Release throttle and position cable so that you can remove the cable end from the socket. Next remove the two screws the clamp the throttle from to the bars. Next remove cable and adjuster. You should now have a thumb throttle in your hand. So next install the Honda unit in the reverse order of above. After installation of the Honda unit adjust the cable play by turning the cable adjuster out. Leave a small amount of play. Now push the thumb throttle to full and reach inside the housing to see if the lever pulls the cable to full. Do this by trying to pull up on the cable while the throttle is pushed to full. If no slack is there you are done and enjoy! If not proceed to the next step. Now I have the Edelbrock carb on mine and it has a long throttle throw, so some modifications are needed. You will need a die grinder for this. You basically need to remove material to accommodate the longer throw. Here are the pictures I took of mine done and working. You can see the shiny metal inside the housing, that is where I removed material. Be careful when grinding and don't go through the housing.
